It was the year 2006. I couldn’t handle my mother’s old Singer anymore, we were never going to be friends. At school I had only had one period of textile crafts, otherwise I was in the hardware-department. During that one period working with sewing machines I found a spark in myself to sew. I used my mom’s Singer to make a top out of an old curtain, and ohh the mocking! The other students thought I was crazy. And I still am.
Here's a picture of my first companion, Husqvarna Viking Platinum Plus.
When we went to a local sewing machine shop, we were in luck. They had just stopped selling Husqvarna embroidery machines, so the one they used to demonstrate how it worked was on a huge sale! My mom made me try the embroidering sewing machine, I would’ve gone home with a Bernina if she hadn’t insisted I try them both. Lucky for me my mom is persistent; I did not work well at all with the Bernina, so the Husqvarna came home with me.
I was very enthusiastic and sew all sorts of things using Burda patterns. I didn’t much care for the embroidery aspect of the machine, but the different stitches of the machine were very used. I combined different fabrics, used old jeans (as much as I could; the machine didn’t much like it if there were, say, three layers of fabric on top of each other…). I felt like I could do anything! I tried coloring a fabric with tie dyeing and made some simple patterns on the fabric using fabric paint. So that’s where I started this whole embellishing thing I do so much these days!
