Hello again! This time I'll just do a little walk-through on how I embroidered this particular piece of black denim, and also how I now use this handy piece of felt to secure my embroidery hoop. I found this little trick on Youtube, and it really does help the fabric stay still. I just cut up a piece of felt, that was about the same size as the hoop: small enough on the inside that no stitch would get caught in it but large enough on the outside so it wouldn't slip off the hoop.
The trick is to put the felt on the top: usually you'd sanwich it so that the stabilizer is on the bottom, then there's the fabric you'll be embroidering on, then the felt. This time I'm using only the felt and the stabilizer. As you can see, I just placed the stabilizer and felt and the top part of the hoop on top of the bottom part of the hoop and hoop the stabilizer. Then I tighten the screw and make sure the hoop is pressed nicely.
When the stabilizer is nice and hooped up, I go for the spray adhesive. I spray the stabilizer, then press down the denim fabric so that it stays still. This is a small and quick design, so I'm confident it's OK to do it this way!
The hooping part was the really interesting part of doing this design, otherwise it's just like you normally embroider things. I selected the design, selected the thread and needle I was going to use and pushed the start-button. Then I just waited for the emroidery to happen.
This one is going to be a pocket of my goth/rock skirt. I want to do a skirt with silver zippers and at least one pocket, maybe four. I'm also thinking of maybe adding a lacing detail to it. Who knows? Well, I'll try to make it during September, so you'll get to see at in October at the latest! It's a part of my UFO army, the UnFinished Objects I have around the house. I began the project in January I think, but it has not gone as I planned, also we moved house in June.
I've now made two different waistbands for the skirt, and one ill-fitting skirt part, and now I'll have to re-think the whole waistband part. Maybe I'ts because it's denim, and not the most stretchiest kind, that I'm having trouble drafting the pattern myself. I might have to just find a pattern to make this skirt. Here's a rough idea of what I'm going for:
The embroidery design is from Urban Threads, it's actually their logo so you can download it for free from their website. It takes about ten minutes to stitch up. They have other cool embroideries aimed at crafty people, so you should definately go check them out.
That's all for now, so bye bye and don't forget to DIY! :)
